Would You Support A Business That Made Money From Animal Abuse?

  1. Would you shop at a store that sold dog fighting videos?
  2. Would you buy from a retailer that offered subscriptions to cock-fighting magazines, which contain ads for cock-fighting foot and beak knives?
  3. Would you buy from a book seller who sells a book titled “How To Select, Breed, Train, and Manage Fighting Dogs?”
  4. Would you support a business that made tens of thousands of dollars selling real fur products?

Amazon has sold animal abuse videos and magazines

Amazon.com Has Sold Dog Fighting Videos

As recently as 2007, Amazon.com offered multiple dog fighting videos for sale. Titles include:

  • Unleashed: The Realest Pitbull Action Caught on Tape, a DVD depicting illegal dogfighting
  • Hood Fights Vol. 2, The Art of the Pit, a DVD depicting illegal dogfighting

According to The Human Society of the United States (HSUS):

in the dogfighting DVD Unleashed, approximately 20 dogs are wounded, tortured or killed during the making of the movie

No one knows for sure how many of these videos Amazon.com earned profits from. However, it took a lawsuit filed on behalf of HSUS against Amazon.com and more than 1 year of legal back and forth to force Amazon to remove these videos.

Amazon.com Has Sold Subscriptions to Cock Fighting Magazines

When police raid illegal cock fights, they inevitably find the magazines Feathered Warrior and The Gamecock. These magazines are “journals” of the cock fighting culture, and up until 2007 Amazon sold subscriptions to both.

Each magazine contained numerous advertisements for cock-fighting implements, including “long knives” that are attached to the legs of a cock so that it can draw more blood in a cock-fight.

Amazon.com sold these magazine subscriptions under the guise of “free speech,” but free speech doesn’t protect illegal activity. Amazon.com stopped offering subscriptions in 2007 due in large part to the efforts of HSUS…however, it took more than a year for Amazon.com to do the right thing here.

Amazon.com STILL Sells a “How-To” Book for Dogfighting

Amazon.com sells a book written in the late 1800′s and titled “How To Select, Breed, Train, and Manage Fighting Dogs.” Amazon argues this book is a “historical curiosity.”

Perhaps Amazon.com could sell plans to make home-made bombs too, as long as they say the books are “intellectual curiosities.”

Amazon.com Earns Thousands of Dollars Selling Real Fur

There’s not enough time to list the reasons that real fur coats and accessories are completely unnecessary. Just ask yourself one thing – do you want to do business with a company that sells this monstrosity?

The coat above – one of hundreds of real fur items available for sale on Amazon.com – sells for $1,595. How much money do you think Amazon makes from selling the skins from murdered animals?
